Maine Releases First Foliage Report

Maine released its first fall foliage report of the season this week. The report tracks how leaves change color across the state. Cooler nights and shorter days trigger the color change each fall. Some areas in northern and western Maine are already showing early color.

Southern Maine's colors usually peak a bit later in the season. Tourism officials use these reports to help visitors plan leaf-peeping trips. Fall foliage tourism is an important part of Maine's economy each year. Experts expect the most vibrant colors to appear in early-to-mid October.
