Maine Gets Ready To Vote

Maine voters will choose a new U.S. senator in 2026. Local news groups are helping people get ready to vote. The Maine Monitor published a voter guide about the candidates and issues. A new survey asked Maine residents what matters most to them.

This survey tracks opinions across the state over time. Election officials say guides and surveys like these help people make good choices. Campaigns will keep reaching out to Maine voters in the coming weeks. Both local and national attention should grow as Election Day gets closer.

Maine residents will vote in a U.S. Senate election in 2026, a contest that has drawn interest from both state and national observers. Voter guides published by local news organizations, including the Maine Monitor, are intended to help residents understand the candidates and the issues at stake before they head to the polls. Efforts like these have become an important part of local election coverage in the state, especially as fewer traditional newsrooms are available to cover statewide races. Local newsrooms say helping voters access clear, nonpartisan information is one of their central goals this election cycle.

This week, the Siena Research Institute released a new survey as part of a project examining public opinion in Maine, sometimes called the 'Maine Progress Report.' Surveys like this ask residents about the issues most important to them, such as the economy, health care, or education, and can offer insight into how voters are thinking ahead of the election. Researchers say these ongoing surveys help track shifts in public opinion over time, giving candidates and reporters a sense of what matters most to Mainers. The survey drew responses from Maine residents across different regions and age groups, aiming to capture a broad snapshot of opinion.

As the election approaches, both political parties are expected to increase campaign activity across the state, including advertising, town halls, and door-to-door outreach. National political groups often pay close attention to competitive Senate races like Maine's, since the outcome could affect the balance of power in Washington. Voters can expect more polling, debates, and campaign coverage in the months leading up to Election Day. Local election officials also remind residents to check registration deadlines and polling locations well before voting day.
