Maine voters will head to the polls this November for several major races. Those races include a contest for governor and a seat in the U.S. Senate. The governor's race will determine who leads the state for the next term. That leadership shapes policy on issues from education funding to energy costs. The Senate race carries added weight because it could shift the balance of power in Washington. Both contests have drawn sustained attention from candidates and political observers all year.

Campaign activity has intensified in recent months as candidates travel the state to meet voters. Maine's elections are often watched nationally because the state has a history of competitive results. Local election officials say they are preparing polling places well ahead of the November date. That preparation is meant to help ensure smooth voting for everyone. State officials have also emphasized voter registration deadlines this fall. They are encouraging residents to confirm their registration status before Election Day.

Observers note that turnout in Maine can vary between presidential and midterm years. That makes 2026 an important test case for voter engagement. Both statewide races are expected to draw heavy spending on advertising in the final weeks. Residents can find nonpartisan voter guides through the Maine Secretary of State's office. Election officials say final results are typically certified within weeks of the vote. That process follows standard counting and audit procedures.
