New Tradition Honors Sick Responders

This year, the 9/11 ceremony added something new. After officials read the names, there is a seventh moment of silence. It honors rescue and cleanup workers who got sick later. Many workers breathed in toxic dust after the attacks. Over time, some developed cancer or serious breathing problems.

This new moment says thank you to those brave workers. Organizers say it reflects lessons learned over 25 years. It also reminds visitors that 9/11's effects continue today. Their sacrifice deserves to be remembered too.
