The Yankees, one of baseball's most storied franchises, have long been known for competing deep into October. The Padres have built a reputation in recent years as strong National League contenders. Late-season games like this one often influence tightly contested playoff races in both leagues. Every win can shift a team's position in the standings during the season's final weeks. Coaches and players alike describe September baseball as some of the most pressure-filled of the year. Fans on both coasts tuned in to watch how the two well-known franchises performed under that pressure. The Yankees and Padres will each continue their pursuit of a postseason berth through the rest of September. Both franchises have large, devoted fan bases that closely follow every late-season pitch.
