Giants Win Last Practice Game

The New York Giants closed their preseason with a 23-6 win over the Jets. The win capped a busy stretch of practice games before the regular season. Several backup and rookie players got extra playing time in the finale. Coaches used the game to make final decisions about the roster.

Preseason games do not count in the standings. Still, they help coaches decide who makes the final roster. With preseason finished, the Giants must trim their roster to the league limit. That process happens in the days right before the season begins. Fans will get their first real look at the regular lineup in the season opener.

The New York Giants closed their 2026 preseason with a 23-6 victory over the New York Jets. The win gave the coaching staff a final chance to evaluate the roster before the regular season begins. It followed an earlier preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins earlier in August.

Preseason games carry no weight in the official standings. Even so, they play an important role in shaping a team's final roster. Backup quarterbacks, rookies, and players competing for the last roster spots typically see heavy playing time in finales. Coaches already know how their star players perform, so late-game situations reveal more about depth players.

With the preseason complete, NFL teams must cut their rosters to the league-mandated limit within days. Every team faces difficult decisions about which players to keep, trade, or release. Performances in games like the Jets finale can influence those final decisions. Players on the roster bubble often view the preseason finale as their last chance to impress coaches.

For fans, the end of preseason means meaningful football is almost here. The Giants' final tune-up gave supporters a look at depth players who could matter later if injuries occur. The regular season opener will offer the first real measure of how the roster changes translate into results that count.
