NASA, SpaceX Postpone Crew-13 Launch to Investigate Dragon Leak

NASA and SpaceX have postponed the launch of Crew-13, the next mission scheduled to send astronauts to the International Space Station. Officials said engineers discovered a leak in the Dragon spacecraft that was set to carry the crew, prompting the delay. The Dragon capsule is the same type of spacecraft SpaceX regularly uses to fly astronauts and cargo to the orbiting laboratory.

NASA has not announced a new target launch date. Engineers first need to identify the source of the leak. They must confirm it can be safely repaired or ruled out as a risk. Investigating problems before liftoff is a routine safety step in spaceflight. Even routine checks can delay a mission by days or weeks.

The astronauts assigned to Crew-13 are continuing their training during the investigation, NASA said. Space station missions are planned so that one delayed launch does not affect astronauts already in orbit. The current station crew remains safely in orbit, continuing its research and daily operations.

Delays like this one are not unusual in spaceflight, where safety often outweighs schedule. NASA and SpaceX said they will share more details once engineers finish reviewing the spacecraft. The postponement came just one day after the successful launch of NASA's Roman Space Telescope from the same Florida coastline.
