Giants Close Out Preseason With Win Over Jets

The Giants played their final practice game. They played against the crosstown Jets. The Giants won by a good margin. The final score was twenty-three to six. Now coaches must pick the real team. Some players will make the roster. Other players will not make it. The regular season starts very soon.

The New York Giants closed out their preseason schedule with a solid 23-6 victory over their crosstown rivals, the Jets, on Friday night. The Jets defense forced two early turnovers, giving their offense promising field position to start the game. Still, the Giants gradually pulled away as the contest progressed into the second half. Preseason finales carry less competitive weight than regular-season games, but they often shape which players ultimately make a team's final roster.

Coaches typically use the last preseason game to make crucial evaluations on players still competing for roster spots. This scrutiny is especially intense for backups and rookies trying to prove themselves worthy of a permanent job. A strong showing in a finale can sometimes decide who earns a place on the final fifty-three-man roster. For both clubs, this game offered one last extended look before difficult roster cuts arrive.

With the preseason now complete, both teams must trim their rosters down to the regular-season limit. Teams throughout the league face that same demanding deadline this week. Final roster cuts will reshape depth charts just before opening weekend finally arrives. Fans will soon discover which players managed to earn a regular-season roster spot.

The Giants leaned on a mix of continuity and internal competition while assembling this year's roster. Several position battles remained unsettled until this final exhibition contest wrapped up. Coaches will spend the next few days finalizing their remaining decisions. The regular-season opener is now approaching quickly for both New York-area franchises.
