Convention Marks Start of Election Season

Many people are running for government jobs. Election day is coming this fall. People will vote for leaders in Congress. Voting helps decide who makes our laws.

Everyone is encouraged to learn and vote. Leaders gave speeches this week about voting. They asked people to promise to vote.

Vice President JD Vance headlined the second day of a Republican political convention this week. The event opened the party's campaign push toward the November midterm elections. Speakers also marked 25 years since the September 11 attacks. They honored the one-year anniversary of the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Election Day is less than eight weeks away, on November 3. President Trump led the crowd in reciting a pledge to vote this fall. Midterm elections decide which party controls the House and Senate for the next two years. Both parties are treating this cycle as a crucial test of public opinion.

Charlie Kirk was a prominent conservative youth organizer who was assassinated one year ago. His death shook political circles across the country. Convention speakers used the anniversary to call for civility and safety in political life.

Millions of Americans will vote in House, Senate, and local races this November. Analysts say control of Congress could shift depending on turnout in competitive districts.

Historically, the party that does not hold the White House often gains seats in midterm elections. Both Republicans and Democrats are recruiting candidates and raising money ahead of the fall campaign season. Voter turnout and key swing states will likely determine the final outcome.
