EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.
The New York Giants are set to open their 2026 season against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13. The matchup marks the first regular-season test for a roster shaped throughout the offseason and training camp. Both teams have long treated their meetings as one of the NFL's most storied rivalries.
Coaches have spent the preseason evaluating players at nearly every position. Roster decisions made in the final weeks before the opener often shape a team's early-season identity. Injuries and depth at key positions, including the offensive and defensive lines, remain storylines to track. The Giants' performance in this opener could set the tone for how they approach the rest of the schedule. The Giants' front office made several offseason moves aimed at strengthening the roster.
A win over a rival like Dallas would provide an early confidence boost for the locker room. A loss, on the other hand, could raise early questions about the team's direction. Analysts will be watching how new additions to the roster perform under real game pressure. The result will also shape early expectations for the rest of the NFC East race. Fans across the region are expected to closely follow the season opener. Ticket demand for the opener has reportedly been strong among longtime season subscribers. Both coaching staffs are expected to make final adjustments during the last days of preparation. League-wide, opening week always draws heavy attention from analysts and fans alike.
