Vice President JD Vance visited Compotech, a manufacturing company in Brewer, Maine, this week. It was his second trip to the state so far this year. Compotech builds defense technology, and Vance praised the company as an example of manufacturing the administration wants to see grow. He said the company builds 'critical defense tech that keeps our service members safe overseas.' During his remarks, Vance also turned to immigration and border security. He argued that tighter border restrictions have helped reduce drug overdoses in Maine. Vance said overdose deaths in the state have dropped 17% this year. 'We sealed the border and that's what happened,' Vance said. The visit is part of a broader pattern of national attention on Maine ahead of upcoming elections. Maine has drawn interest from both parties due to competitive races expected in 2026. Vance's appearance highlighted the administration's emphasis on domestic manufacturing tied to national defense. Local officials and business leaders attended the event at the Brewer facility. The visit offered Compotech increased visibility as a growing employer in the region. Vance's comments on overdose numbers could not be independently verified in this report. Immigration and border policy remain highly debated topics nationally. Vance's visit adds to a growing list of high-profile trips to Maine this election cycle.
